What you need to know before you fly.
Entry requirements depend entirely on your nationality, so it's essential to check the official UK government guidance before you travel. As a general rule, however, most visitors will need a valid passport and, depending on where they are from, either a visa or an Electronic Travel Authorisation.
Passport Validity
Your passport should normally be valid for the full length of your stay. Many airlines also recommend at least six months of remaining validity, so check your passport's expiry date well ahead of your trip.
Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA)
Visitors from a growing number of visa-exempt countries are required to obtain an Electronic Travel Authorisation before travelling to the UK. It is applied for online, is typically approved within a few days, and is linked digitally to your passport — there is no physical document to carry.
Visa-Required Nationals
Travellers from many other countries will need to apply for a Standard Visitor visa in advance through the official UK government website. Processing times vary, so it is wise to apply several weeks before departure.
Arriving in the UK
On arrival, you may be asked by Border Force officers about the purpose of your visit, your accommodation and your return travel plans. Having a copy of your tour itinerary and hotel bookings to hand can make this process quicker — something we're always happy to help you prepare.
